Typically, no.
So why do people dress their Bouvs in shoes?
The most common answer: mud and snow. To prevent messes from tracking inside the house. Our nickname in Europe is "Dirty Beard," but dirt, leaves, seedpods and stickers can pretty much attach anywhere on our coats! We love the outdoors and the outdoors love us!
Other reasons people may dress their Bouvs in shoes: fashion forward cuteness, to protect natural hardwood floors from scuffs and wear, and to protect paws during extended time outside in freezing conditions. Or, if you're into carting, you might use them for traction or as a protect layer between asphalt and paws in hot weather when you can't avoid blacktops.
How do Bouvies like shoes? About the same as any other dog. They feel unnatural at first but they get used to them - and certainly they approve of the added protection when it's needed!
New booties and shoes for dogs are developed and marketed every year. Some are functional and some are just for fun. We highly recommend taking your Bouv to the store with you for a fitting. Just like people, not all Bouvies have the same size paw: some have "hare-feet" or cat-like, narrow paws and others have wide, fat, "bear feet."
Post a photo of your Bouvie in booties and let us know what you think!
